The IYP Database
The structure of the IYP bibliographical records was devised to meet the specific requirements of recording print items from the Yiddish press in its various periods. Thanks to this structure the user can fully benefit from effective search tools.
Selection of indexed items
In general, the index includes only items whose author can be identified. The index provides bibliographical records for short or anonymous items only when they touch upon themes deemed to be of potential interest to students and scholars of the period: literature, theater, language and culture, prominent personalities or institutions, and events of broad social or political significance. The index does not record anonymous shorter items of limited interest.
Advertisements and announcements of any kind are not recorded at all.
Structure of the bibliographical records
The bibliographical records include the following data:
- Author (including: Pseudonym, Translator, Compiler, Compositor, Artist);
- Title / Rubric;
- Genre (for literary texts, graphic materials, scores);
- Title of publication;
- Date (including all bibliographical details for locating the item in the publication);
- Subject;
- Links (to online copies of the article, and to the description of the publication on the IYP website).

Subjects
The definition of a subject (or more than one) in the bibliographical records is intended to enable users to easily locate those materials that are of interest to contemporary researchers and readers.
The relevance of the issues discussed (authors, prominent personalities, cities, ideologies, political parties, events, etc.) was the main criteria in adding a subject.
